Ion Pumps
Sputter ion pumps create a discharge in a magnetic field to ionise residual gas. Ions strike titanium cathodes, producing reactive material that binds gases; implantation provides another retention mechanism.

Product & engineering
Understand the product.
Ion pumps, also known as sputter ion pumps or ion getter pumps, are capture pumps that ionize gases using an anode/cathode array.
An ion pump requires an established vacuum to start useful operation. Gas species and electrode design affect pumping behaviour, particularly for noble gases. The pump works with chamber preparation and a separate initial evacuation arrangement.
What turns activity into demand
After initial evacuation, outgassing and the residual gas mixture determine the load. A larger chamber does not create a proportional ion-pump requirement. Separate ion-pump elements, power controllers and initial evacuation equipment. High-vacuum chamber cleanliness is not a sale of additional pumping elements.
The commercial boundary
Separate ion-pump elements, power controllers and initial evacuation equipment. High-vacuum chamber cleanliness is not a sale of additional pumping elements.
