Service & Software · Yard automation

A yard truck sale does not describe an autonomous yard.

Autonomous Yard Truck Solutions connect dispatch, movement and trailer handling. The commercial unit depends on the task delivered and the contract that supports it.

The operator’s question

How much of the complete trailer move can the deployed system perform?

Fleet counts are an input. Completed tasks within accepted site conditions connect the system to operating value.

The complete task connects the system to value.
01 · AssignmentDispatch & identify

The requested move needs an identified trailer and destination.

02 · ExecutionConnect & move

Coupling, connections and movement form the physical task.

03 · CompletionPlace & recover

Placement and exception handling determine whether the task is complete.

A task model for comparing deployment scope, rather than a supplier throughput benchmark.

The installation has three connected layers.

Outrider describes management software, autonomous vehicles and site infrastructure as parts of its integrated system. Mission Control dispatches and monitors moves; the vehicles and trailer-connection equipment execute the physical task. [1]

This creates a different boundary from selling a tractor. A site combines equipment with communications, operating rules and integration into the flow of trailers. The buyer acquires capability in a particular operating environment.

Driving is one step in the move.

Trailer handling includes identification, hitching, brake and electrical connection, movement and placement. Outrider’s December 2022 announcement addresses the connection step through a robotic arm. The event describes a technical capability, not an installed fleet or current market share. [2]

Measure the whole cycle. An occupied dock can create waiting regardless of driving speed. A manual connection can retain work outside the automated portion. More trucks do not necessarily remove the bottleneck.

Hardware and recurring service have separate units.

In its 10 July 2025 announcement, Outrider describes a subscription covering the autonomy stack, cloud management, trailer tracking and support. The same announcement discusses deployment plans; plans are not evidence of completed customer acceptance. [3]

Separate tractors, enabled vehicles, accepted sites and recurring contracts. A revenue comparison needs the included scope and service period. Fleet expansion and a software renewal can both change supplier revenue without representing the same transaction.

A repeat site still requires local work.

Check route geometry, trailer formats, communications, mixed traffic and recovery procedures at the next site. Reusable software can lower repeated integration work, but it cannot make all operating environments identical.

Track productive moves, waiting and interventions within the accepted task envelope. This separates evidence of operating capability from vehicle presence.

Sources & scope

The analysis uses one supplier’s published architecture and dated developments to explain system boundaries. It does not establish fleet totals, labour savings, safety certification for another configuration or market share.
