A single-axis MEMS gyroscope measures rotational speed about one sensitive axis. A micromachined structure moves under controlled excitation; rotation creates a Coriolis response that the readout electronics translate into an angular-rate signal. Reorienting the package changes which machine axis it observes, but does not turn one channel into a three-axis instrument.
