White to yellow crystal, with inverse fluorite structure, specific gravity 1.66 (water = 1), melting point 938°C, boiling point 1372°C. Lithium sulfide is easily soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, soluble in acid, and insoluble in alkali. It absorbs moisture in the air and hydrolyzes, releasing hydrogen sulfide gas.
