Roots Pump
A Roots vacuum pump moves gas using two counter-rotating lobed rotors inside a casing. The rotors operate with controlled clearance and do not contact each other.

Pressure difference across the pump affects mechanical and thermal loading. A vacuum booster normally works with a backing pump and a control arrangement that keeps this differential within the permitted range. A Roots booster is not the same as a multistage dry pump package.
What turns activity into demand
A booster increases useful pumping in a pressure range only when its backing arrangement can remove the transferred gas. The combination determines the operating curve. Count the booster and backing pump separately, then identify which are sold as a matched package. Nominal booster speed is not the standalone system pumping curve.
