Digital Optical Microscopes
Digital optical microscopes couple optical magnification to an electronic image sensor, allowing images to be displayed, recorded and measured in software.

Product & engineering
Understand the product.
A digital microscope is a variation of a traditional optical microscope that uses optics and a digital camera to output an image to a monitor, sometimes by means of software running on a computer. A digital microscope often has its own in-built LED light source, and differs from an optical microscope in that there is no provision to observe the sample directly through an eyepiece. Since the image is focussed on the digital circuit the entire system is designed for the monitor image. The optics for the human eye are omitted.
The Digital Optical Microscope industry can be broken down into several segments, Desktop Digital Microscope, Portable Digital Microscope, etc.
Screen enlargement adds no optical detail. Assess objective resolution, sensor sampling and illumination before treating a larger displayed image as a more informative one.
What turns activity into demand
The specimen and observation determine optical geometry, illumination and measurement functions. Cameras and automation add acquisition capability; they do not replace specimen preparation or calibrated interpretation.
The commercial boundary
Magnification, contrast technique and observation-tube format describe different attributes. Catalogue topics can overlap and must be matched to the actual optical task.
Does greater displayed magnification reveal more detail?
Screen enlargement adds no optical detail. Assess objective resolution, sensor sampling and illumination before treating a larger displayed image as a more informative one.
