Polycarbonates
Polycarbonates are engineering thermoplastics used in transparent and other applications requiring specified mechanical, thermal or electrical behaviour.

Product & engineering
Understand the product.
Polycarbonates (PC) are a group of thermoplastic polymers containing carbonate groups in their chemical structures. Polycarbonates used in engineering are strong, tough materials, and some grades are optically transparent. They are easily worked, molded, and thermoformed. Because of these properties, polycarbonates find many applications. Polycarbonates do not have a unique resin identification code (RIC) and are identified as "Other", 7 on the RIC list.
Drying is important before melt processing. Moisture and excessive thermal exposure can degrade material and affect the finished surface and properties.
Stress, geometry and contacted chemicals influence service behaviour. Optical, flame-retardant and reinforced grades serve different duties.
What turns activity into demand
Demand follows accepted components, sheet area and the grade required by each application. Base resin, modified compounds, sheets and moulded products have distinct supply scope.
The commercial boundary
Base resin, modified compounds, sheets and moulded products have distinct supply scope.
