APO RESEARCH · REPORT
Architectural Coatings
Architectural coatings form decorative and protective films on building substrates, with binder and formulation selected for the specified interior or exterior surface.

Product & engineering
Understand the product.
Architectural coatings are finishes for the interior and exterior of buildings, along with devices like lamp posts, awnings, and so forth. The key purpose of an architectural coating is decorative, although it also adds some protection to the underlying building materials.
Masonry moisture, alkalinity and existing layers affect adhesion. Colour and finish cannot establish suitability for a substrate or exposure condition.
What turns activity into demand
The substrate and exposure define the coating system, preparation and layer sequence. Durability depends on interfaces and processing as well as the formulated film.
The commercial boundary
Corrosion, optical, electronic and packaging functions have different tests. One attractive coating surface does not establish every barrier or protection claim.
Which substrate condition controls adhesion?
Masonry moisture, alkalinity and existing layers affect adhesion. Colour and finish cannot establish suitability for a substrate or exposure condition.
