Field Joint Coating
Field Joint Coating (FJC) is the field-applied external corrosion protection coating system used to protect the bare steel and adjacent cutback areas at pipe girth welds after pipe joints, bends, or fittings are welded together, so that the welded connection regains corrosion protection continuity with the factory-applied mainline coating on buried or submerged steel pipelines.

Product & engineering
Understand the product.
In standards practice, FJC covers the qualification, application, and testing of the corrosion-protection coating applied to steel surfaces left bare after welding, and it is primarily defined for oil and gas pipeline transportation service. Typical FJC systems are selected to match the mainline coating and service conditions, and may include heat-shrink systems, liquid-applied coatings, fusion-bonded epoxy based field systems, or cold-applied tape or visco-elastic systems.
FJC refers to the corrosion-protection coating function at the welded field joint itself, not the broader package of external protection measures that may also be installed at the same location. Additional mechanical protection, thermal insulation, and concrete weight-coat joint infill can be part of the overall pipeline joint protection design, but they are treated separately from the core FJC corrosion-coating scope in the ISO field-joint coating standard framework.
Composition, supplied form and processing history determine the usable material. Evaluate the property required by the actual application with the specified test method; a chemistry name alone does not define a finished grade.
What turns activity into demand
Qualified formulation or component output creates material purchases through loading, process yield and the supplied mass basis. Raw material, formulated blend and finished-part revenues describe separate transaction stages.
The commercial boundary
For Field Joint Coating, distinguish the supplied product from its inputs and the complete application. Report types and applications may overlap; retain the selected edition's product definition, geography, period, unit and transaction basis when comparing estimates.
Which conditions determine usable field joint coating performance?
Field Joint Coating (FJC) is the field-applied external corrosion protection coating system used to protect the bare steel and adjacent cutback areas at pipe girth welds after pipe joints, bends, or fittings are welded together, so that the welded connection regains corrosion protection continuity with the factory-applied mainline coating on buried or submerged steel pipelines. Match formulation and impurity limits to the converting process, then verify the property after processing or curing. Compare like-for-like dry or as-supplied quantities; a finished component and its raw material represent different transaction stages.
