Low-Voltage Contactor
A low-voltage contactor is an electrically controlled mechanical switching device used to make, carry and break a power circuit under specified normal and operating-load conditions.

Product & engineering
Understand the product.
Low-voltage Contactor is an electrically controlled switch used for switching an electrical power circuit, similar to a relay except with higher current ratings. A contactor is controlled by a circuit which has a much lower power level than the switched circuit.
A typical electromagnetic assembly combines a coil and magnetic circuit, a moving armature, a linked contact carrier, return or latching mechanisms, main terminals and insulation. Auxiliary contacts support interlocks and feedback rather than carrying the main load. Conventional coils and electronically controlled drives have different control-power behavior, and accessories can add mechanical interlocking or defined overload interfaces. These features must be read for the offered configuration rather than assumed from the contactor's external dimensions.
Load duty determines the stress on the power contacts. Switching a mainly resistive load differs from starting and interrupting a motor, repeatedly jogging it or reversing connections. AC utilization categories and the relevant regional application ratings distinguish those duties; DC switching additionally requires an approved voltage and contact arrangement capable of extinguishing its arc. A device's thermal carrying current, motor rating and permissible breaking duty therefore describe different aspects of performance.
A contactor is often combined with an overload relay, fuse or circuit breaker to form a functional motor or load-control assembly. The contactor executes the command; the associated protection senses or clears the conditions assigned to it. Coordinated selection considers prospective fault current and the combination's behavior, as well as switching life, local heat, mounting space, terminal access and control compatibility. Buying a bare contactor does not supply all of those assembly functions.
What turns activity into demand
Define what the load does when contacts close and open, then match the contactor, control circuit and protection around that behavior. The commercial subject is the low-voltage contactor component, including suitable AC and DC main-duty configurations. Complete starters, drives, protective breakers and control relays have different boundaries. Existing AC, DC and definite purpose contactor families overlap this broad portfolio; the distinct catalogue views are not additive physical markets.
