Twin screw extruder is the classic machine used for the plastic extrusion process when two or more ingredients are mixed or compounded. The process is best suited when extruding reactive polymeric materials. It has higher economic opportunities and business potential than single screw extruders, owing to higher process flexibility and productivity, to produce wider range of end products, to convert materials and handle product quality more consistently, to compensate the effect of screw wear through screw speed adjustment.

Screw geometry, rotation arrangement and barrel zones determine the sequence of feeding, melting, mixing and venting. Modular elements can adapt a machine to compounding tasks.

Residence time, specific energy input and feed consistency affect product quality. Abrasive fillers and sensitive polymers impose different wear and thermal constraints.
