Brazed plate heat exchangers provide efficient heat transfer with a small footprint. They are maintenance free, provide a long service lifetime and can withstand high temperatures and extremely high design pressures. They are used in a range of duties including cooling, heating, and evaporation and condensing.

The distinguishing feature is stacked plates permanently joined to form alternating fluid channels. Check braze-material compatibility and the cleaning method before selecting a compact core. The channels cannot be opened like a gasketed plate pack, so feed fouling and pressure loss become critical. Thermal cycling and freezing risk must be evaluated for the installed circuit.
