Anti slip Steel Plate is a patterned steel plate or sheet product used where a load bearing walking or working surface must retain traction under dry, wet, oily or contaminated conditions. The product is sold under established industrial names including checkered plate, chequered plate, floor plate, tread plate, patterned steel plate, tear plate and diamond plate. Its functional value comes from a raised surface pattern formed on a steel substrate. Common patterns include diamond, chequered, tear drop, lentil, raised lug and five bar geometries. Pattern height, pitch, orientation and raised area density determine slip resistance, drainage behavior, contact stability, wear retention and cleanability. The base metal determines load capacity, weldability, corrosion performance, forming behavior and price. The main material groups are carbon steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel and high strength steel.
Carbon steel is the largest material base for ordinary industrial floor plate, stair treads, walkways, vehicle decks and construction work surfaces. It is commonly supplied as hot rolled patterned plate using structural grades such as ASTM A36, ASTM A572, EN 10025 S235, S275 and S355, JIS SS400, Q235 and Q355. Stainless steel anti slip plate is used in corrosive, hygienic, marine and chemical environments, with 304, 304L, 316 and 316L as common grades. Galvanized anti slip plate adds zinc corrosion protection for outdoor stairs, access ways, building service areas and light industrial flooring. High strength anti slip plate uses stronger structural steel where vehicle loading, heavy equipment access, mining service or transportation floors require higher yield strength and improved dent resistance.
The dominant manufacturing route is hot rolling with patterned rolls that impress the raised geometry into the steel while the material is at rolling temperature. This route produces an integral pattern that is part of the steel surface, with no separate attached layer. Thin gauge products and stainless patterned sheets are also produced through embossing, pressing or roll texturing after hot rolling or cold rolling. Galvanized and coated variants add zinc coating, paint or other protective surface layers after the base plate is formed. The manufacturing route affects pattern durability, dimensional tolerance, flatness, residual stress, edge condition, cuttability, weldability and downstream fabrication behavior.
Anti slip Steel Plate specifications are governed by both product standards and base steel standards. ASTM A786 is the main North American floor plate standard and is commonly used with structural carbon steel grades such as ASTM A36. European products commonly combine patterned floor plate specifications such as EN 10363 with structural steel grades under EN 10025. Japanese and Asian supply commonly uses JIS structural and hot rolled sheet standards such as JIS G 3101 and JIS G 3131. Indian chequered plate supply uses IS 3502. Chinese hot rolled patterned plate supply is commonly aligned with GB or GB/T standards for patterned plate, carbon structural steel, low alloy structural steel and hot rolled plate dimensional tolerances. In commercial use, standards are applied together with mill dimensional specifications for nominal thickness, base thickness, overall thickness including raised pattern, width, length, flatness, mass per unit area and surface condition.
Mechanical performance is defined by the substrate steel and remains central to product selection. Key mechanical properties include yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, bend performance, hardness and impact toughness where the application requires it. Yield strength defines the stress level at which the plate begins permanent deformation and is the primary strength reference for structural loading. Tensile strength defines ultimate resistance before fracture. Elongation measures ductility and forming tolerance. Hardness and wear behavior matter in vehicle decks, equipment steps and abrasive work areas. Impact toughness matters in cold service, ship deck, offshore and heavy industrial environments. Tensile testing under ASTM A370, ISO 6892 or equivalent national standards establishes yield strength, tensile strength and elongation from representative specimens, while bend, hardness and impact tests define supplementary mechanical limits for grade specific or application specific supply.
