The global EV market continues its rapid expansion, with China, Europe, and North America collectively accounting for over 90% of worldwide electric vehicle sales.

Global electric vehicle sales have crossed the 20 million unit milestone in 2025, representing a 30% year-over-year increase. This achievement reflects the maturing EV ecosystem, declining battery costs, and expanding charging infrastructure worldwide.

Market Breakdown

China remains the dominant EV market, accounting for approximately 10 million units sold. BYD has solidified its position as the world's largest EV manufacturer, surpassing Tesla in global sales volume. European markets contributed 5 million units, driven by stringent emissions regulations and generous consumer incentives.

North America, particularly the United States, saw strong growth with 3.5 million EVs sold. The expansion of Tesla's product line, combined with competitive offerings from legacy automakers like GM, Ford, and Hyundai-Kia, has given consumers more choices than ever.

Battery Technology Advances

The average cost of lithium-ion battery packs has fallen below $100/kWh for the first time, a long-anticipated threshold that makes EVs cost-competitive with internal combustion vehicles without subsidies. Solid-state battery technology is also progressing, with Toyota and Samsung SDI announcing pilot production lines.

Charging Infrastructure

Global public charging points have exceeded 5 million, with ultra-fast charging stations (350kW+) becoming increasingly common along major highways. Standardization around the Combined Charging System (CCS) and Tesla's NACS connector in North America has simplified the charging experience for consumers.
