Portable generator is a self-contained, engine-driven generator set designed to be moved by hand or light handling equipment rather than permanently installed, providing temporary or auxiliary electrical power at locations without a fixed supply or when grid power is unavailable. It typically consists of a small gasoline, diesel or gas-fuelled internal combustion engine coupled to an alternator or inverter-generator module, mounted within an integrated frame with fuel tank, control panel, protection devices and output receptacles, and is rated in the low- to medium-power range for supplying tools, appliances, site equipment or emergency loads. Compared with stationary generator sets, portable generators are characterized by compact construction, limited fuel and noise control provisions, and manual or simple automatic starting and load control, and are used in construction sites, outdoor events, remote operations and residential backup where rapid deployment and relocation are required.
