Polymeric coatings for drug delivery are drug-containing polymer layers engineered on a product surface to store an active pharmaceutical ingredient and govern its release to the surrounding tissue or fluid environment over a defined time window. The polymer functions as the structural matrix that immobilizes the drug and controls transport through mechanisms such as diffusion, polymer swelling, and, when bioresorbable chemistries are used, hydrolytic degradation, enabling release profiles that range from rapid transfer to sustained elution.
