Nepheline syenite is a commercially prepared, rare feldspathoid-rich rock product. The process controlfound in most nepheline syenite operations offers a controled level of Fe2O3 that canhelp to improve fired color. Most noncommercial nepheline syenite deposits are gray or dark incolor and have high iron levels that severely limit their potential in industrial applicationshos.
Canada, Norway and Russia were the three largest nepheline syenite production countries in the world. Other countries with less production included Brazil, China and Turkey. The leading producing company was Belgium-based SCR Sibelco NV, through its subsidiaries Sibelco Europe in Norway and Unimin Corp. in Canada. Others included Fineton Industrial Minerals Ltd. in China and OJSC Apatit AG in Russia.
