A modular double belt press is a continuous lamination and consolidation machine in which a product lay-up is conveyed through a controlled gap formed by two synchronized, endless steel belts while temperature, pressure, and residence time are precisely profiled in successive modules. The modular architecture allows the press length and function blocks to be configured or extended—typically including preheating, isobaric or roller-bed pressure zones, thickness calibration, cooling, and optional degassing/vacuum, edge-sealing, surface embossing, and in-line trimming—so that thermal and mechanical histories can be tuned to the material system. Pressure is applied uniformly across the web via hydrostatic oil cushions or dense arrays of support rollers beneath heated and cooled platens, while closed-loop controls maintain belt tension, speed, zone temperatures, pressure setpoints, and thickness using inline gauges. By delivering flat, low-gradient heat transfer from both sides and near-constant area pressure, the press produces tight cross-web thickness tolerances and high surface quality for continuous manufacture of thermoplastic composite laminates (e.g., UD-tape organosheets), decorative HPL/CPL and engineered wood facings, elastomer and foam sheets, insulation boards, and other multilayer films and textiles, with release liners and web-guidance systems managing product handling through the line.
