Helium extraction, recovery and purification system is an integrated gas processing installation that separates helium from a helium bearing feed or waste gas stream, collects and compresses the recovered gas, removes contaminants and delivers helium at a specified purity, pressure and physical state. Extraction systems process natural gas, nitrogen rejection gas, LNG boil off gas or other helium bearing sources using combinations of cryogenic separation, membrane separation, adsorption and distillation. Recovery systems capture helium discharged from MRI and NMR magnets, cryogenic laboratories, leak testing equipment, semiconductor processes and other helium consuming operations through collection piping, gas bags, compressors and storage vessels. Purification systems remove water, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide and other contaminants through drying, catalytic conversion, adsorption, pressure swing adsorption or low temperature separation. Depending on the required product specification, the purified helium may be compressed into cylinders, returned directly to the consuming process or transferred to a helium liquefier. A complete installation may integrate extraction, recovery, purification, storage and liquefaction within one controlled process chain.
