Fluidized bed system is a process apparatus in which a controlled upward gas stream—most commonly heated air or an inert gas—suspends and fluidizes a bed of particulate solids, causing the solids to behave like a well-mixed fluid and enabling high-efficiency heat and mass transfer. By combining uniform convective drying with intensive particle–gas contact, fluidized bed systems are used to dry, granulate, and coat powders, granules, pellets, and other multiparticulates, typically by integrating an air-handling train, distributor plate, product container or processing chamber, filtration and fines return, and—when required—spray nozzles for binder or coating application. Operating windows are defined by minimum fluidization velocity, particle size distribution, gas temperature and humidity, and residence time, allowing the system to produce controlled moisture profiles, particle growth, and film formation with tight batch-to-batch or continuous-process consistency across pharmaceutical, chemical, and food applications.
