Copper–tungsten (tungsten–copper, CuW, or WCu) is a mixture of copper and tungsten. As copper and tungsten are not mutually soluble, the material is composed of distinct particles of one metal dispersed in a matrix of the other one. The microstructure is therefore rather a metal matrix composite instead of a true alloy. The material combines the properties of both metals, resulting in a material that is heat-resistant, ablation-resistant, highly thermally and electrically conductive, and easy to machine.
Global core copper tungsten players include Sumitomo Electric, Advanced Technology & Materials and Plansee etc. The top 5 companies hold a share about 31%. Asia-Pacific is the largest consumer, who owned nearly 64% share in global consumption market in 2021. The follower is Europe, accounting for about 18% sales share in 2021.
In terms of types, WCu 80/20 type occupied the largest sales share of about 35% in 2021.
Based on the application, High Voltage Electrical Switch constitutes the largest application market for Copper Tungsten, accounting for about 38% of global share.
