A Component Content Management System (CCMS) is a system used to manage content at a component level. The system can track links, versions, and metadata associated with each component. It provides unparalleled granular control of component contents. A component content management system functions like any other content management system, but manages content at a more granular level, which allows these systems to reuse content consistently without fear of incorrect versioning. Within CCMS, content is managed at the level of words, paragraphs, topics, concepts, or assets through the use of an XML-based data model such as Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) or DocBooks. This allows users to maintain consistency across a document (or multiple documents) since elements are reused, as opposed to being copied and pasted. It also enables enhanced searchability since content is broken down further into smaller topics.
