Refractory is an inorganic, nonmetallic material formulated to retain its physical integrity, mechanical strength, dimensional stability and chemical resistance during prolonged exposure to high temperatures, molten metals, slags, hot gases, thermal cycling, abrasion and mechanical load. Refractories are produced from heat resistant mineral systems based principally on alumina, silica, magnesia, doloma, chromia, zirconia, carbon, silicon carbide and related compounds. They are manufactured as shaped products, including bricks, blocks, nozzles and precast components, or as unshaped products, including castables, gunning mixes, ramming mixes, mortars and plastics. Refractories form the working, safety and insulating linings of furnaces, kilns, reactors, ladles, tundishes, converters, incinerators and other thermal processing equipment, where they contain heat, protect structural shells and maintain controlled operating conditions.
The global Refractory market was valued at US$ million in 2025 and is projected to reach US$ million by 2032, implying a CAGR of % over 2026–2032.
The North America market for Refractory is forecast to increase from US$ million in 2026 to US$ million by 2032, corresponding to a CAGR of % over 2026–2032.
