Asphalt mixing plants are fixed or mobile industrial installations designed to meter, dry, heat and homogeneously mix mineral aggregates, reclaimed materials, mineral fillers and bituminous binders to produce hot-mix or warm-mix asphalt with controlled composition and temperature for road and pavement construction. A typical plant integrates aggregate storage and cold feed systems, a drying drum with burner, screening and hot storage for graded aggregates, weighed dosing of binder and filler, a batch or continuous mixer, dust collection, and process control instrumentation to maintain specified gradation, binder content, moisture removal and discharge temperature. Depending on design, asphalt mixing plants may operate in batch mode, where discrete mixes are produced according to recipe, or in continuous/drum mode, where aggregates and binder are continuously fed and mixed, with optional parallel lines or recycling systems to incorporate reclaimed asphalt pavement within defined performance and environmental limits.
